Christmas Shopping for Kids- Ideas

Have you seen all of the cute toys that are out for Christmas? I have not done my Christmas shopping yet!! I usually get it done early, but not this year.:o I have many nephews and nieces. Our family keeps growing and growing every year. One year, we asked the kids for a Christmas Wish List. Ha, ha, what were we thinking? So many kids, so many requests. Well, we did ask… right? Anyway, I have looked around and have not made any decisions yet. I really, really need to get it done soon. Today, I just want to show you some of the toys that caught my eye.

Christmas Ornament Keepsake

Do you like to make Christmas Ornament Keepsakes?  It is so much fun decorating the Christmas tree with ornaments that our kids make at school year after year.  It is just as fun to make them at school with our students, wrap them up and send them home as a Christmas gift.  We know that parents are waiting for this little gift with anticipation. There are so many little ornaments that we can make. Some require a lot of teacher preparation and others a little less.
DIY Stained Glass Christmas Ornament:
Materials Needed:
-A picture from a coloring book
-Transparency paper
-Printer
-Markers
– Aluminum Foil Paper
-Black construction paper
-Scissors
-Stapler
-Ribbon
How to make it:
1. Use a printer to copy the coloring book picture onto transparency film.
2. Cut around the picture on the transparency copy in the shape of a circle. The size of this circle will determine the size of the foil paper.
3. Cut the aluminum foil paper into a circle pattern just a little larger than the size of the copy in step #2. (Crumble the paper, then open it and smooth it out a bit. Do not crumble the paper too much because you will have a hard time trying to open it back up.)
4. Cut the black construction paper into a circle pattern the same size as the one in step #2 (The round transparency page with the picture on it.)
5. The child will use bright markers to color the picture on the transparency film.
6. The child will use a black sharpie to trace all the lines on the picture.
7. Take the colored picture, hold it faced-down, place it on top of the foil paper.
8. Fold the excess foil paper forward to hold the transparency picture in place.
9. The black circle that you cut out of construction paper will go behind the foil paper. Now, staple the layers together.
10. Make a small hole at the top of the ornament and tie a small ribbon.
11. Hang it on your Christmas tree and enjoy!
The Santa ornament can be made with a paper tube, construction paper, cotton balls and a sharpie. I found that idea here. I love it!

This ornament was shaped with pipe cleaners.
Just not sure of the material used to decorate it, but I love it!
I’ll try to find out from the teacher and let you know.

The Mitten Clip Art and More Cuteness for December

I worked on some clip art sets for winter last week.  I love how they turned out. The Cozy Animals set can be used along with “The Mitten” story. I also created some for a Penguin Family and a Snowman Family.  I hope that it is not too late for my Christmas sets. I decided to bundle them up.  They include very colorful images of Santa’s Sleigh, Standing Reindeer, Jolly Santa, Colorful Santa Bags and pastel Flying Reindeer. These are the color images, but they all include the black and white images in a single download.

Short Vowels Clip Art with CVC Word Patterns

I have been a little busy with a clip art request from some sweet blogging friends. We were in need of graphics for short vowels. I came up with a list of words that follow a CVC pattern. Now, we do not have to spend hours online searching for short vowels clip art AND having to credit so many sources in a single product. I hope that these work for your phonics creations. I am working on another set. I will post it as soon as I finish. These graphics are available in individual packets and in a bundle. I added a freebie at the bottom of this post. If you like it, make sure to download it:)

Here is a freebie for you. Just right click and save it to your computer 🙂

What’s in my shopping cart?

I had a great time with my family this Thanksgiving Break. It was so nice to visit and stay there for a few days. I am finally back and now I am getting ready for the Cyber Monday Sale on TPT. These are some of the things that I have added to my shopping cart so far.

This is a Christmas unit by Tammy. I will use it
in along with my own unit. It’s always good to have too many
activities than not enough.
Miss Kindergarten includes a cute winter craft in this packet.
This is by Queen of the First Grade Jungle.

Turkey Family Project

Have you ever added a turkey in disguise project to your Thanksgiving unit? In the past, we have always done a simple “Decorate the Turkey” family project. Students decorate the turkey and have fun finding items around the house to decorate those feathers. Some items have included  Froot Loops, sequins, stickers, and colorful pom poms. The turkey projects are usually very colorful and students have come up with some neat ideas.

Well, I have heard of disguising a turkey before, but I had never tried it until this year. My son had to do a “Disguise the Turkey” family project. When I asked him what disguise he would like for his turkey, he immediately said “BATMAN!!” We used construction paper, feathers, and colored wiggley eyes. It came out adorable! Here it is:)

Here is a close-up:)
Oh, wait. I published this post by mistake last night.
THIS morning he wanted to add a CAPE to his Batman Turkey:)
Ha, ha. He wore his Batman shirt to
school today, to match 🙂 Sooooo, here is the complete project.

Trace, Color, Build Thanksgiving Words and a Freebie!

Trace, Color, Build Thanksgiving Words is an activity that you can add to your Thanksgiving thematic unit.

Click on the cover to find out more

Before place these in a center, you can start out by allowing your students to brainstorm a few words that have to do with Thanksgiving. You do not have to make a long list. Just add a few words to a small chart and talk about the words that they came up with on that day/week (make another small list the next week, and so on). Your  small chart might look a little like this first picture. (Another idea is to  make a chart according to the categories that are mentioned at the end of this post.) I only added six words to mine. You can talk about the first sound in each word. Then, take each word and sing it along to the BINGO song as you spell it out. The longer words will become a little tricky, but you can come up with a smaller word to replace it.

After that vocabulary has been introduced, you can pull out my Trace, Color, Build printables with those particular words from my packet. Model and practice completing this activity so that students can work on it independently in a center. If your list has a word that is not in my packet, do not worry. Just give them the words that ARE in the packet:)
This is a sample of one of the printables.

This is what it will look like after the students read it, trace it, and rainbow color the target word.

Students will then cut the bottom part that contains the letter tiles.

Next, students will place the letter tiles in correct sequence before they glue the target word.
The word is written on the printable a few times, so this will be a good visual for lower grade students.

Now, they can add a dot of glue inside each square.

Finally, your student will place the pieces in the squares.

This is what the completed work will look like:)

It includes one English and one Spanish printable.
Enjoy!
